A man stripped down to his boxer shorts and dove into Lake Eola early Saturday morning after witnessing a car plunge into the dark waters.

The driver, 30-year-old Romelli Bernadeze Cainong, told officers she had “freaked out” after seeing a pedestrian walking across her path on East Rosalind Avenue and accidentally drove into the lake to avoid striking the person.

But her bloodshot eyes, smell of alcohol and failure to pass all of the sobriety tests showed Cainong was drunk, police said.

This is impressive. There is a fair amount of land between East Rosalind Ave. and the lake. Land with plenty of trees, lightposts, and a big bandshell. She got real lucky.
